Looking Back on DICT DJT – Virtual Assistant Online Training: Days 1 & 2
Have you ever felt that the universe is conspiring in your favour to give you your hearts desires? Well, I started my freelance journey last 2012. I started with content writing, then transitioned as a virtual assistant. I’ve had my fair of ups and downs. More downs actually than ups. But I took baby steps. First is learning to crawl just like everybody else.
And boy, did I crawl! Knee-scraping kind of crawl.
Resources weren’t as easy to come by compared to today. I had to learn by experience or search every nook and cranny on the web to find how-to guides. So as not to pass on the struggles I’ve had, I opted to share what I learned along the way.
Just like this recently started Digital Jobs Training (DJT) by the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT). I was also a product of their Rural Impact Sourcing Technical Training for Digital Marketing 2 years back (so I grabbed this opportunity again). This time, I am upskilling my Virtual Assistant Skills.
What is a Virtual Assistant (VA)?
A VA is a self-employed (or sometimes a part of an agency) who provides administrative services to clients.
What VA Skills are needed? A LOT! That’s why I am trying to upskill. Here is a look back on my days 1 and 2 of the DICT DJT – VA Training that I am currently attending.
Day 1- How to Start Online Freelancing
These are the topics discussed:
- The State of Freelancing in the Philippines.
- Pros and Cons of Working from Home as a Freelancer.
- Is Freelancing for you?
- Freelancing Must-Haves
- Resume
- Portfolio
- Blog / Website
- Services Offered
- Branding
- Tools
- Applications
- Mode of Payment
- Business Model
- Guru Revenue Model
- Retail Revenue Model
- Subscription Revenue Model
- Profile Creation
- Where to find work online
- Service proposal and pricing
Coincidentally, I already mentioned most of these on my blog How To Become A Virtual Assistant With No Experience.
Day 2 – Basics of Web Research
It was mind-boggling at first, but the good thing all of the scholars were able to do the Day 2 tasks. The topics discussed:
- Data Privacy Law
- Basic Search
- Basic Syntax Elements of Boolean Search Strings
- CRAAP Test
- Citing Sources
Now, what have I learned and accomplished during the first 2 days of training?
I am now more equipped as a VA and this blog is MY accomplishment both for my DICT DJT – VA Training and for my Ben Button Writing Course.
What do I need to work on and complete before the next session? I need to hone my web research skills to fully optimize this training.
As for questions or concerns that I have and need advise on, is probably how to zone in on my niche.
