Would You Choose To Be An Organ Donor?

Would You Choose To Be An Organ Donor?

“What we say, what we do affects others too.”

That is what I remind my son every day. I remind him about the connection that we make as human beings. How our lives affect others in a way that we may never understand. And of course one trait he got from me is that what I have, I share when possible.

Being an organ donor is a huge help for those in need. The demand for organs or tissues outweighs the availability of such. When I renewed my driver’s license last June, I was asked if I wanted to be an organ donor, I hesitated at first, but had the employee mark it so I could be an organ donor after remembering the mantra I taught my son.

Why would I do it you ask? There are many organs that can be donated. It ranges from kidneys, eyes, lungs, heart, liver, pancreas, cornea, small intestine, skin tissues, bone tissues, heart valves and veins. I would do it as long as it benefits someone else. I certainly wouldn’t be able to bring it to the other side. Everything we have, we leave it here on earth.

It is not a sense of entitlement about me keeping someone else alive, but it is more of a line of thinking that this recipient is keeping a part of me alive. If any part of me is beneficial for someone else, then let them benefit from something that could improve their lives.

Organ donation or organ transplant is sure to save thousands of lives yearly. Be someone’s hero, save lives. Don’t hesitate and be an organ donor today.
