RIS Technical Training (Day 2) – Web Design
The start of Day 2 made me giddy. Like a kid waiting to open a Christmas present, I was excited and in high spirits. Our trainer started with JK Rowling’s story and about a donkey shaking it off and evading impending doom. This introduction for the 2nd day reaffirmed my belief that I am “in” the moment. The Universe has spoken and is telling me to enjoy the journey as it opens up new possibilities in my life.
Our discussion then started with a review about color psychology and the color guide he provided for us which is:
- Yellow – showing optimism, clarity, and warmth.
- Orange – depicts cheerfulness, and confidence.
- Red – as the color of boldness.
- Violet – for creativity.
- Blue – to incite trust.
- Green – showing peacefulness and
- White – for balance.

He then talked about site maps, which basically is the backbone of any web design. It is a list of pages that a web designer puts in a web site. It shows a plan as to where you will put the information on your site.
This web page, also called a landing page usually shows 20 other pages within. It may or may not consist of any of the following:
- About Me
- Contact Me
- My Portfolio
- My Links
- Products
- Blogs
- Join Us
- Events
- Sponsors
- How To
- Get a Quote
- Videos
- References
- Examples
- Tour
- Archive
And many more.
During the afternoon session, our trainer introduced us to:
- Web Domain which the name of a website or more commonly called as a URL (uniform resource locator).
- Web Design is the process or creation of a website. It includes page layouting, content production and even graphic designing.
- Web Hosting is basically the storage space of the above mentioned and provides access for websites.
My passion for blogging and web making was reignited as I was reintroduced to WordPress and relived the memory when I made my first website and the satisfaction I felt every time I learned something new.
These past few days have been a blast and I could not wait for what I would recall on the third day. This RIS Technical Training is not just a refresher course for my freelancing know-hows but it serves as a refresher course for my passion. The light inside me that I thought was dwindling has now caught aflame and is waiting to burst from the inside out.
